Indian Head Massage

About Indian Head Massage

Indian head massage has been practiced in India for almost 3000 years, and its aim is to release the stress that has accumulated in the tissues, muscles and joints of the head, face, neck and shoulders. This is achieved by using various types of massage movements in the shoulders, neck and head.

All in all, it can help you achieve a balance of mind, body and spirit, in order to promote physical, emotional and spiritual well-being.

60 minute treatment

Benefits of Indian Head Massage

As with all complementary therapies, Indian head massage is a deeply relaxing experience and therefore aids in stress reduction. Some of the other benefits can include:

  • Increased joint mobility;
  • Relieved tension from the head, neck and shoulder areas;
  • Reduced nasal congestion;
  • Improved circulation and lymphatic flow;
  • Promotion of better sleep patterns;
  • Reduced anxiety;

And more!

What to expect

On arrival I will assess your suitability for the treatment. If you like you may sit for the treatment, however lying on the massage bed will provide a much more relaxing experience.

During this 60-minute treatment a wide range of massage movements are used, including the application of deep kneading and compression movements over your mid back, neck, shoulder and scalp areas, in order to relieve tension. Essential oils may also be also be used.

You may find that you can nod off during this treatment as well!

After your treatment

To fully feel the benefits, it’s a good idea to relax for the rest of the day following your treatment as well as increasing your water intake. In addition, try and avoid caffeine and alcohol which can reverse the effects of your soothing treatment. I can also advise on activities you can do to further wind down – in essence, make the rest of the day about you and take time out for yourself!

When to avoid treatment

Indian head massage should be avoided if you have had recent surgery, or a head or neck injury, a history of thrombosis or an embolism. If you have high/low blood pressure, please discuss this with me – if it’s under control then it shouldn’t be a problem. If you have any kind of heart condition, cancer or osteoporosis, talk to your GP before arranging a treatment.
